The New Yiddish Chorale
Singing a slice of history and culture
The New Yiddish Chorale was founded in 1995 by conductor Zalmen Mlotek, Artistic Director of The National Yiddish Theatre-Folksbiene, an internationally acclaimed authority on Yiddish folk and theater music, to perform musically-rich arrangements of Yiddish songs.
The New Yiddish Chorale is preserving and perpetuating Yiddish language, culture and ethics by performing and recording a sophisticated, versatile repertoire of traditional Yiddish folksongs, Yiddish theater tunes, works of the past written for chorus in Yiddish by major composers, and new choral compositions based on texts of important Yiddish poets.
We strive to help current and future generations of Jews develop a deeper understanding of our cultural and ethical heritage through the exciting and highly effective medium of live musical performance. Music being the universal language, we hope to bring our song to Jews and non-Jews alike.
The Chorale has shared its music with audiences throughout the metropolitan New York area in major venues like Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Town Hall and Lincoln Center; and in Synagogues, Community Centers, Festivals and Universities too numerous to name, as far away as Toronto, Ontario and Richmond, Virginia.
The New Yiddish Chorale is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
